Our family left the big city in Virginia for a rural country life situated in the Northeast Alabama Mountains. We bought a turn of the century, diy restoration farmhouse on 24 acres atop Sand Mountain in Dekalb County, Alabama between Rainsville and Fort Payne.
Upon our arrival we quickly discovered the serene sunsets, the intriguing endearing wildlife, the georgeous grand oak trees, expansive rolling pastures and our lakes around us were quite a special experience for the senses to behold. In many ways, our very own Lake District (intentional throw back to when we lived in England).
We felt God leading us to share this amazing tranquility, beauty and peace with others also seeking fresh open air and a place to just...breathe, and see God's natural artwork at hand here at Grand Oaks Farm. So, with zero delay, or equipment (ha) we hand tilled our first mile of lavender rows in the hot June days of 2021. In many ways to our children Dad was like Pa Ingalls except, instead of a horse drawn plow we used our ATV extensively and as creatively as possible. Truly a labor of love.
Today, 9 months later, the lavender in that pasture is growing beautifully. We have added a culinary Herb De Provence Garden with Lavender Provence from France, and a Memory Garden of Grosso Lavender, in the shape of a huge cross, laid across a hilltop above one of our lakes. Our Bee Boxes are arriving soon, bringing forth fresh Grand Oaks lavender Honey this summer.
Aside from the beauty of the earth here at Grand Oaks Farm, we have written an endearing collection of children's stories featuring each of the woodland creatures we have met so far, wide eyed and in awe since March of 2021. We look forward to sharing our very own piece of God's country with you. Come for a visit, enjoy the lavender, some lavender tea, and the beauty of God's earth at Grand Oaks Lavender Farm.
